What is Spoonie on a Mission (SOAM)?

What is Spoonie on a Mission (SOAM)? Spoonie on a Mission is a love letter to and support platform for other people like myself with chronic illnesses – also known as “Spoonies“. Spoonie on a Mission (SOAM) was created because I needed to feel as though I could help someone out there like me. I could no longer sit idle. I may be in pain, and under extreme financial stress, but I needed to feel useful in some way. Why not try to help other people in similar situations as myself?

The chronic pain, illness, and mental health issues that often go hand in hand with the Spoonie life are huge daily challenges for many people. In addition to the ongoing frustration and anguish these things cause, they can also be financially devastating. You can read my own story about this here – where I discuss my autoimmune disease and chronic illness journey.

Share, Support, Inspire, and Love One Another

My hope is for Spoonie on a Mission to be a place where we can share stories, ideas, and information. It offers a community where we may lift one another up when needed, and/or reach out for help when we are struggling. What a lovely way to both give and receive light when we are oftentimes plunged into darkness!

Spoonie-Friendly Products

The SOAM website also offers a page where I will share links to Spoonie-friendly products I have used myself and found useful in my ongoing battle with autoimmune disease and chronic pain. There’s a wide array of products listed: mobility aids, physical therapy tools, food and supplements, household/comfort items and much more. Oftentimes it’s such a trial-and-error process to find products that work, and in my case, that was certainly true. If I can save others a bit of time and hassle by sharing links to products I’ve found truly reliable – I certainly will.

Blog

I will be doing regular blog updates here on SOAM where I hope to share my own experiences, observations, and insights. Everyone needs an outlet – writing just happens to be mine. 😉

You Are Not Alone

Most of all, I want this website to stand as a beacon of hope to my fellow Spooniekind. I want it to reassure you that you are not alone (even though at times you may feel like it). We are all here, trying to get through this chaos just like you! We see you, we support you, and… we love you.

Now… try to get comfy and settle in on the Spooniecouch. I hope you enjoy your stay here.
